Nothing Pink is a local Tega Cay-Fort Mill based organization created to educate women about the risks of hereditary breast cancer, the need for screening and testing (BRCA Genetic Testing), and help women who need and cannot afford genetic testing. Talk of the Town went to Nothing Pink’s annual fundraiser at the Tega Cay Golf Club and Glennon Center to learn more about the organization and their fundraiser.
Talk of the town host Patti Mercer interviewed founder and breast cancer survivor Kelly Kashmer and Lisa Payne during the Crumpets, Croquet and Cocktails Fundraiser held on April 1st, 2017. Patti also interviewed Beth Vanderwalker who had a preventative mastectomy and a oophorectomy after learning she was BRCA2 test positive.
About 1 in 8 women in the U.S. are diagnosed with Breast Cancer in their lifetime. 60 percent of women with the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetimes. Early detection is key to survival, and many women with hereditary breast cancer have no symptoms or family history of the disease. NothingPink.Org is fighting back with early awareness education and detection testing funding. Learn more or donate at their website at NothingPink.Org.
