There are many ways to cool off on hot summer days, but there’s something about flavored ice that does the trick every time. Tucked in the Crossroads shopping center at the corner of Highway 160 and Gold Hill stands a small blue and pink building called Pelicans Snowballs.
The location has seen many businesses come and go. Most recently the location was a used car dealer. Now you’ll find long lines of people waiting patiently for their cup of flavored snowballs.
I surprised Carmen by taking her to Pelican’s on a hot Sunday afternoon after dropping our son off at summer camp. We waited in a line of about a dozen hot anxious customers. I ordered a medium Fuzzy Monkey snowball. Carmen ordered orange and red raspberry. We enjoyed the snowballs.
My research shows the first Pelican’s was in Garner NC near Raleigh. Pelicans is a franchise. The snowball concept is derived from a New Orleans style SnowBall. The business name Pelican’s is named for the state bird of Louisiana. Their long and somewhat wild list of flavors comes from Louisiana.
You can sit and relax or play cornhole while you wait or eat. I’d give Pelican’s in Fort Mill two thumbs up!
