Reading your post reminded me of the 4th of July celebrations I enjoyed in a small town in south central Missouri for many years as a younger man.I guess it is different when you know or recognize many people in the parade or at the fire works display. Or the pride that swells when you are related to one of the Veterans smartly matching in step with “Old Glory”.
