Tega Cay Residents Want Your Help Relocating And Closing The Dog Park
The fight to move the Tega Cay Look Out Park Dog Park (The Central Bark) continues. Homeowners most affected by the current dog park location are asking for your help.If you don’t know the story, a team of homeowners on Newberry Lane challenged the city of Tega Cay a year and a half ago. The homeowners were fed up with the dog park that is located next to their homes because of;
dogs barking all hours of the day, dogs running loose outside the park, dogs left in the park by their owners, safety concerns with their children, environmental concerns, etc.
Finally last February the city council announced they found a new location for the dog park but would not commit to close the current location even when the new dog park opened. It seems some of the dog park users have organized as a group and challenged the closing of the dog park.
Ironically in past city meetings an over whelming majority of Tega Cay residents voiced their opinions in public discussion sessions and agreed they would not want a dog park located next to their home. The Newberry Lane Tega Cay residents need your help. They have created a petition that simply states “as residents of Tega Cay we feel that a dog park should not be located in or near a residential area.” You can contact one of the organizers of the petition and sign the petition or better yet there is a blog and electronic version the petition that takes seconds to complete.
So would you want the dog park located next to your home? If not help your Tega Cay neighbors by signing their petition!

I strongly agree to close the existing dog park- imagine dogs running loose, barking, running onto your deck, through your garage and out of control. My kids can no longer play outside anytime they want. We chose to move to a quiet, cul-de-sac, paying extra for a premium lot, the city changed the rules and it is no longer a quiet street or park. Not only that, owners drive way too fast down the street with dogs in their laps- do you think they are watching for out kids? Also, when the dog owners are asked to keep their dog on a leash, they argue with you. I was even minding my own business tending to my flowers in the backyard when a dog owner came up to my property and chewed me out for asking that everyone follow the rules – how dare they! I don’t want to clean your poop out of my yard- I don’t want my kids playing in a dog toilet – the soccer fields are for the kids- not the dogs – it is not an extension of the dog park. This park is not managed properly and the dog owners are not concerned with following the rules regarding the use of the surrounding areas. It was never supposed to be here – I did my ‘due diligence’ when I moved here- the city changed the rules and I refuse to put up with it any further!

I strongly agree with closing the dog park. I am not certain of the criteria that was used to create a dog park and I can only assume that it caters to a small population of the City of Tega Cay. I am alarmed that the park has created so many adverse effects on the surrounding residents and there is even an issue of whether or not to close it. I have encountered the smell of the park as a passerby and it is not pleasant. I have been fearful of loose dogs running and sniffing around my children while the canine owners seem oblivious to my concern. The fact of the matter is that the park is negatively impacting the day to day lives of the residents surrounding it. I can only hope that if I was faced with a similar dilemma my community members would rally behind me instead of challenging me. My suggestion would be to close the park and not worry about relocating it. You would only be transferring the problem to a new location. Cities try new things all the time and some just don’t work out – they move on to bigger issues.

i do not think the dog park should be closed. dogs need a place to run around with other dogs and have fun just like kids. why should they suffer because of stupid people in the neighbor hood making up lies about dogs running around and crap.
