Tega Cay residents driving home last week were surprised when they saw a new massive treeless area as they entered the city limits of Tega Cay. Site construction and tree removal began on the approx 27 acre home of the new Fort Mill School District Elementary school. The new school is planned to open August 2014. The 1000 student school is much needed since Tega Cay’s closest elementary school (Gold Hill) has been in an enrollment freeze for quite some time.
If you have not heard, the new elementary school will now be in the city limits of Tega Cay. The city of Tega Cay and the Fort Mill School District resolved their differences and struck a deal to allow the city to annex the new school’s property.
Read more about the annexation at the John Marks’ story in the Fort Mill Times.
Read more about the property at this 2010 Homesfortmill post.
The Ft. Mill School District is hosting a Community Information Meeting on Wednesday, July 11th, at 6:30 pm in the upstairs of the Glennon Center. The FMSD will conduct a short presentation concerning construction and schedule of the new elementary school.
So how many trees do you think where taking down so far? This major visual change to the route we travel daily is a hard pill to swallow. I am sure in time we will get used to the changes for progress. I remember hearing Tega Cay “old timers” saying how shocking it was to the area when trees were cleared for the construction of the Lake Shore Subdivision. What are your thoughts?

Nice to know that there’s another school to be installed in your area. That’s another access to education for people who will live in your area.
