Tega Cay Votes No To 2nd Marina In Lake Shore

August 05, 2008 By: Scott Category: Tega Cay News

Tega Cay residents filled the Tega Cay council meeting room on July 24th to participate in a special session. The topic was the proposed Hidden Harbor Marina to be located in the Lake Shore subdivision of Tega Cy.  The council voted no to the marina plan.  This would have been the second Tega Cay Marina.

So why did the council vote no? Most Lake Wylie marinas are full with waiting lists. You would think this was a good deal for Tega Cay.  As it turns out the proposed 32 slip marina must meet Duke Energy’s shoreline management rules. The marina must be a true public marina but there is a hitch. The rule further states that a bordering development can not use the marina. That means Lake Shore residents could not use the marina. Lake Shore is home for approx 40% of Tega Cay residents.

The shoreline management rule was put in place in 2006. It’s too bad Newland, the company who developed Lake Shore, or Tega Cay that took over Lake Shore after Newland left in 2005 did not apply for a marina at that time.

Most Lake Shore residents I spoke with about this issue were opposed to the rule and did not want the marina with the restrictions. Lake Shore residents would gain non-resident traffic without the marina benefit. I am not surprised that there was a large turn out for the special council meeting. Some Lake Shore residents questioned if the council would have voted no without the large Lake Shore resident turnout.   (more…)

February 20, 2008 By: Scott Category: Tega Cay News

Kerry Arnold who lives on Newberry Lane near the dog park wrote a detailed comment to my post titled “Does Tega Cay Need 2 Dog Parks?”  I thought her comment was worth a post rather than just a comment to another post. Here is what Kerry wrote.

Thank you Scott for your take on the meeting. I think we are all still in disbelief and shock from what came out of the meeting last night. (more…)

Tega Cay Newberry Lane residents that have been fighting to move the Lookout Park Dog Park named the Central Bark (ironic isn’t it?) away from their homes were dealt a crushing blow last night at the Tega Cay’s City Council meeting. It was announced last night that a new dog park will be built near the new Catawba Park. It could take 30 plus days to complete. Good news for Newberry Lane resident’s right? (more…)

If You Can’t Beat City Hall, Join Them!

February 15, 2008 By: Scott Category: Tega Cay News

I was looking over the agenda for next Tuesdays Tega Cay City Council meeting. The meeting is heavy with 2nd reading ordinances and new business. It maybe a long night.

The Dog Park issue is on the agenda again. The Council’s 30 day wait (reprieve) to get more information about moving the dog park to the future Catawba Park area time is up. It will be interesting to hear an update and how long the process may take.

So in thinking about the past dog park meets and discussions, two individuals that were significant “voices” or advocates in moving the dog park away from their residential area (more…)

Larry Harper and George Sheppard were sworn in to their council seats at Monday Nights Tega Cay Council Meeting.

The first order of business was the possible annexation of Gold Hill Elementary and Middle school. A motion was passed to approve an easement that would allow the city to have adjacency claim to the school. The second motion was to annex the schools land. It was explained by Mayor Runde that the annexation process must have 2 council meeting readings and votes. Monday night was the first reading and vote. The council plans to have the second reading and vote next week.
