Dancing To Save Middle School Sports

April 25, 2012 By: Scott Category: Fort Mill News

Who’s This Local Celebrity Dancer or Sports Player?

The local middle school sports program funding was cut by the Fort Mill School board when the economy headed south a couple years ago. Parents formed a district wide school booster organization (FMSDAB) to raise money and keep middle school sports in the schools. One of the major funding activities by the middle school booster program is a Dancing with the Stars style fundraiser.

Dancing with the Stars Fort Mill is this Saturday 4/28/12 at the Tega Cay Glennon Center beginning at 6pm. Six local celebrity dancers  (more…)

April 13, 2012 By: Carmen Miller Category: Fort Mill News, Tega Cay News

Carlos “Cuban” Café on Cheery Road in Rock Hill has closed but the restaurant is moving and reopening in Tega Cay at the Stonecrest Shopping center of Hwy 160. An article in the Herald today states Carlos Café is closing and moving to Tega Cay because the restaurant ran out of space at their location in Rock Hill.

The Restaurants’ Facebook page describes the restaurant as

“Family owned Cuban Restaurant, Carlos Cafe, was created to give the Carolinas’ palette an authentic taste of Cuba! Cuban food is a fusion of flavorful spices of Spanish, African and Caribbean cuisines. The owners of Carlos Cafe are bringing a piece of Cuba’s heritage, flavors and culture with their small eatery in a big way! Inspired by Cuba…Made in the U.S.A.”

Have a Bratwurst at the Bavaria Deli in Fort Mill

April 10, 2012 By: Scott Category: Fort Mill News

” Haben Sie Hunger”

Did you know there is a German deli located on Hwy 160 in Fort Mill? I just had a deli sandwich called the Tavern Special at the Bavaria Deli which is located in the Fort Mill Gateway Commons on Hwy 160. It was a great sandwich! The sandwich consisted of a roll with prosciutto, lettuce, mozzarella cheese, tomato, fresh basil, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, salt/pepper for $4.95.

The Bavaria Deli claims to be a German Specialties store with meats, sausages, cold cuts, cheese, krauts, mustard’s, pickles, jams, honey, tea, coffee deserts and more. It’s a German butcher-shop and a great lunch take out shop. You’ll also find larger meals like German meatballs, stuffed pork chops, goulash soup, stuffed pot roast and more. And if you like Bratwurst, this is the place to come. They also cater. (more…)

Some Fort Mill – Tega Cay Homes Experiencing Water Pipe Leaks

March 14, 2012 By: Carmen Miller Category: Local Information - Fort Mill, Lake Wylie, Carolinas

We know 5 home owners in the Baxter Village and Tega Cay Lake Shore subdivision that have had water pipe leaks in their homes recently. Some of the home owners have had significant water damage to their home. If you think you may have CPI brand Dura Pex water pipe tubing installed in your home, please listen.

The information we have been able to gather about the water tube leaks are linked to Consolidated Plumbing Industries (CPI) Dura Pex tubing manufactured between 2001 and 2004. NIBCO purchased CPI in 2006 and performed tests on CPI manufactured Dura Pex tubing because of higher than normal reports of water tube failures in the Charlotte metro area.

NIBCO claims the tubing tests showed low gel content and poor oxidative stability. In addition, they claim the water especially in York County SC and Union County NC is considered to be “aggressive” and coupled with high pressures are accelerating material degradation and causing the failures. I am not sure what aggressive water means but several of the reported leaks are occurring near the hot water heater which see higher pressures because of the expanding hot water.

So what should you do if have the terra cotta flex tubing manufactured between 2001 and 2004 installed in your home? I would first inspect the tubing to see if you can see if the CPI manufacture stamp on the tubing especially near your hot water tank.  If you’re not able to determine the manufecturer you can always call your home builder or plumber and speak to them about the type of plumbing pipes installed in your home.

Price Brothers, Inc. is a local plumbing company that many of the builders used in new construction, especially in the Tega Cay Lake Shore subdivision in the early 2000’s. Price Brothers recommend replacing approx 20 foot of pipe leading to your water heater if your home has the CPI made defective tubing. We have found the CPI tubing installed in our DR Horton built home and are having Price Brothers replace the pipe near our water heater as a preventive measure.

I found the following online forum conversation about CPI manufactured tube failures with other home owners in the area if you want to read more.

Fort Mill’s Aging Heritage Towers’ Fate Maybe Decided In March

February 02, 2012 By: Carmen Miller Category: Local Information - Fort Mill, Lake Wylie, Carolinas

Have you ever driven by the old Jim and Tammy Bakker built “Hertiage Towers”? The towers are located in Fort Mill SC Regent Park off of US Hwy 21. Is the tower an eyesore for nearby Fort Mill home owners or a diamond in the rough for future senior citizens? If you have not seen Heritage Towers, you’ll find a high rise tower located in what seems to be an odd location for such a tall 21 story structure. There is a fence around the building shielding anyone from falling bricks off of the building. Basically the tower and some areas around the tower look like an un-kept, decaying,  unfinished safety hazard. (more…)
