Will Freightliner Move to South Carolina?

February 01, 2008 By: admin Category: Fort Mill News

Early January I wrote about Freightliner signing an 11 year lease with Koll Development for a 150,000 sq ft office in Fort Mill, SC. Freightliner plans to relocate 340 a sales and marketing jobs from Portland to Fort Mill, SC. (To review the post click the link = http://homesfortmill.com/fort-mill-news/freightliner-leases-150000-sq-ft-building-in-fort-mill-sc/) With this information, several people have asked what is happening with the rest of the Freightliner headquarters move? Why did Freightliner sign an 11 year lease if they plan to buy 300 acres of land in York County and build a new headquarters complex within the next 5 years? Are they really moving? (more…)

Two New Hospitals in Fort Mill?

January 24, 2008 By: Scott Category: Fort Mill News

Carmen asked me Monday if anything new has come up about the new Fort Mill Hospital. I had not heard anything so I did some online research. It seems back in May 2006 Piedmont Medical Center was awarded a certificate by the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) to build a 221,985-square-foot, 100 bed hospital called Fort Mill Medical Center on a 40-acre site at the corner of Hwy. 160 West and Hwy. 21. The process allows for an appeal process that was estimated to take 2 years to resolve. I have not been able to find on line any updates on the timing or status of the hospital. Here are a couple links to Fort Mill Times 2006 articles by Jonathan Allen about the Fort Mill hospital.

PMC will receive 10-year break on Fort Mill taxes

Appeals process could take years

Here is a link to a PMC article:

But I did find a related story that popped up in the Fort Mill Times yesterday by Jonathan Allen . (more…)

January 16, 2008 By: Scott Category: Fort Mill News

The Fort Mill school district wants you to approve a bond referendum on March 4th 2008. The school district is experiencing growing pains with the areas increased development and population growth. The district estimated its school population increased 11% in 2007 from the previous year.
There are two bonds referendums or questions on the ballot. One bond is for building a middle school, 2 elementary schools, and acquiring land for future school sites. The cost of bond 1 is $87 million. The second bond will enable the addition of classroom gyms at both high schools, and the completion of a stadium at Nation Ford High School.
